TROPIC NIGHT at Safarimaze.
SafariMaze is a vibrant bar, restaurant, and club in Kampala, Uganda, known for hosting Tropic Night, a monthly event dedicated to House and Techno music. Each month, a new theme sets the tone, with top DJs brought in to energize the crowd. I was responsible for creating the promotional videos, designing the event flyers, and managing the social media content, ensuring the event's visual identity stood out and engaged the audience.
Tropic Night - Poison Ivy
The theme of the event was the comic book character Poison Ivy, and for the occasion, all the DJs were made into comic book characters. I used AI to make the characters based on the DJS portrait pictures and then edited the images in Adobe Photoshop to have different backgrounds suited for the theme.
I used a comic book filter on Instagram to make the DJ Promo stories. 1 DJ was promoted each day for content and to create anticipation for the event. I also created a couple of promo videos, one that showcased the DJ posters and one with video material from earlier events.
For the descriptions of the post, I had some fun by playing on the Poison Ivy theme, and pretending that a group of legendary DJS had escaped straight out of Arkham Asylum from a parallel universe, and were on a mission to turn your world upside down at the event. See the whole description below.
I found that putting some extra effort into the bespoke dj posters and character created more incentive for re-sharing among the Djs and others.
Tropic Night - Voodoo Groove
The event’s theme was Voodoo Groove, and for the promo video, I dressed up one of the DJs as a Voodoo man lurking around at Safarimaze. I edited the promo video in Wondershare Filmora, to utilize the program’s rich special effect gallery.
For the DJ Stage centerpiece we built a 1x1 meter Voodoo Mask from scratch and decorated the place with African masks, candles, and tropical leaves.
I also created a themed cocktail bar menu with special campaigns for the night to place around the club, to incentivise bar sales.
Tropic Night
On the earlier events before we started giving it different themes, we focused more on giving the place a tropical vibe, by decorating the stage with tropical flowers and building a very memorable stage for the DJs to play at.
